DESCRIPTION

Afiros-XT Syrup  The combination of Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg and Folic Acid 550 mcg  is commonly used as a haematinic supplement to treat and prevent iron deficiency anemia. Ferrous ascorbate provides a highly absorbable form of iron that helps increase hemoglobin levels and improve oxygen transport in the body. Folic acid (vitamin B9) supports the formation of healthy red blood cells and plays an important role in DNA synthesis and cell growth. This combination helps improve hemoglobin levels, reduce weakness and fatigue, and support healthy blood formation, especially in pregnancy and nutritional deficiencies.

INDICATION

Iron Deficiency Anemia: Afiros-XT Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) helps prevent and treat iron deficiency anemia by providing a readily absorbable form of iron, essential for forming hemoglobin and ensuring adequate oxygen transport in the blood.

Enhanced Iron Absorption:  Afiros-XT Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg) The inclusion of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in Ferrous Ascorbate significantly enhances the absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract, making the iron more effective in increasing blood levels.

Nutritional Deficiency and Weakness: Afiros-XT Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg)  helps improve general weakness, fatigue, and poor nutrition due to low iron and folate levels.

Folic Acid Deficiency: Afiros-XT Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg)   Helps treat conditions caused by low levels of folic acid (vitamin B9), which is important for red blood cell.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Ferrous Ascorbate combines iron with ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to enhance its effectiveness. The iron in ferrous ascorbate is in a form that is more readily absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract compared to other forms of iron. Once absorbed, iron is utilized in the synthesis of hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying component of red blood cells. Ascorbic acid aids in this process by reducing iron to a more absorbable form and preventing its oxidation, which further enhances iron absorption and utilization.

Folic Acid is a synthetic form of vitamin B9 that is converted into its active form, tetrahydrofolate, in the body. This active form is crucial for DNA synthesis, repair, and cell division. It supports the production and maturation of red blood cells, working synergistically with iron to prevent megaloblastic anemia. Folic acid also plays a key role in neurotransmitter synthesis and overall cellular function.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Drug-Drug Interaction: Afiros-XT Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg)  may have interaction with anticonvulsants (phenobarbital, primidone, phenytoin, sodium valproate, carbamazepine), antibiotics (chloramphenicol, cotrimoxazole, trimethoprim), antimanic drug (lithium), water tablet (triamterene), anti-inflammatory drug (sulfasalazine), painkillers (aspirin), anticancer drug (methotrexate).

Drug-Food Interaction: Avoid intake of dairy products, coffee or tea with Afiros-XT Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg)   at the same time as they may reduce the absorption of Afiros xt Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg).

Drug-Disease Interaction: If you have a stomach ulcer, vitamin B12 deficiency, any blood disorder, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon), pernicious anaemia (anaemia due to lack of vitamin B12) or folate-dependent tumour, inform your doctor before taking Afiros-XT Syrup (Ferrous Ascorbate 30 mg + Folic Acid 550 mcg).
