DESCRIPTION
Afiros XT Tablet (Ferrous Ascorbate 100 mg + Folic Acid 1.5 mcg + Zinc 22.5 mg) belongs to a class of medicines called haematinics used to treat and prevent anaemia caused by iron and folic acid deficiency. Anaemia occurs when the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to body tissues. This combination helps increase haemoglobin levels and red blood cell production, thereby improving oxygen supply throughout the body. It also helps reduce fatigue, weakness, and supports overall health.
INDICATION
• Iron Deficiency Anaemia : Afiros XT Tablet (Ferrous Ascorbate 100 mg + Folic Acid 1.5 mcg + Zinc 22.5 mg) helps prevent and treat iron deficiency anaemia by providing a readily absorbable form of iron essential for the formation of haemoglobin and proper oxygen transport in the blood.

• Enhanced Iron Absorption : Afiros XT Tablet (Ferrous Ascorbate 100 mg + Folic Acid 1.5 mcg + Zinc 22.5 mg) contains Ferrous Ascorbate, where ascorbic acid (vitamin C) significantly improves the absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract, making the iron more effective in increasing blood levels.

• Support for Red Blood Cell Production : Afiros XT Tablet (Ferrous Ascorbate 100 mg + Folic Acid 1.5 mcg + Zinc 22.5 mg) provides iron and folic acid, which are essential for the production and maturation of healthy red blood cells.

• Cellular Health and Growth : Afiros XT Tablet (Ferrous Ascorbate 100 mg + Folic Acid 1.5 mcg + Zinc 22.5 mg) supports overall cellular health, tissue repair, and the growth and maintenance of new cells.

• Pregnancy Health : Afiros XT Tablet (Ferrous Ascorbate 100 mg + Folic Acid 1.5 mcg + Zinc 22.5 mg) helps reduce the risk of neural tube defects in the developing fetus and supports healthy fetal growth during pregnancy.

• Energy and Vitality : Afiros XT Tablet (Ferrous Ascorbate 100 mg + Folic Acid 1.5 mcg + Zinc 22.5 mg) helps reduce fatigue and weakness caused by iron and folate deficiency, improving overall energy levels.

• Support for Cognitive Function : Afiros XT Tablet (Ferrous Ascorbate 100 mg + Folic Acid 1.5 mcg + Zinc 22.5 mg) supports brain health and cognitive function as these nutrients are involved in neurotransmitter production.

• General Well-being : Afiros XT Tablet (Ferrous Ascorbate 100 mg + Folic Acid 1.5 mcg + Zinc 22.5 mg) helps maintain normal blood levels and supports overall metabolic and physiological functions.

MECHANISM OF ACTION
Ferrous Ascorbate : Ferrous Ascorbate combines iron with ascorbic acid (vitamin C) to improve its absorption and effectiveness. The iron in ferrous ascorbate is easily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is used in the synthesis of haemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying component of red blood cells. Ascorbic acid enhances iron absorption by converting it into a more absorbable form and preventing oxidation.
Folic Acid : Folic Acid is a synthetic form of vitamin B9 that is converted into its active form, tetrahydrofolate, in the body. This active form is essential for DNA synthesis, cell division, and the maturation of red blood cells. It works together with iron to prevent certain types of anaemia and supports proper cellular function.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Drug-Drug Interaction : Afiros XT Tablet (Ferrous Ascorbate 100 mg + Folic Acid 1.5 mcg + Zinc 22.5 mg) may interact with anticonvulsants (phenobarbital, primidone, phenytoin, sodium valproate, carbamazepine), antibiotics (chloramphenicol, cotrimoxazole, trimethoprim), antimanic drugs (lithium), diuretics (triamterene), anti-inflammatory drugs (sulfasalazine), painkillers (aspirin), and anticancer drugs (methotrexate).
Drug-Food Interaction : Avoid taking dairy products, coffee, or tea at the same time as Afiros XT Tablet, as they may reduce the absorption of iron.
Drug-Disease Interaction : Inform your doctor before taking Afiros XT Tablet if you have stomach ulcers, vitamin B12 deficiency, blood disorders, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis, pernicious anaemia, or folate-dependent tumours.
