DESCRIPTION

Esodac-DSR Capsule (Esomeprazole 40 mg (EC) + Domperidone 30 mg (SR) is a combination medication used to treat acid-related disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), acidity, and peptic ulcers. Esomeprazole (enteric-coated) reduces stomach acid production by blocking the proton pump in the stomach lining, helping relieve heartburn and promote healing. Domperidone (sustained-release) improves gastric motility and prevents nausea and vomiting by enhancing stomach emptying. Together, they provide effective relief from acid reflux, bloating, and discomfort associated with delayed gastric emptying.

INDICATIONS

Erosive Esophagitis: A condition characterized by inflammation and damage to the lining of the esophagus due to repeated exposure to stomach acid. This acid reflux leads to pain, irritation, and difficulty swallowing. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): A chronic digestive disorder in which stomach acid frequently flows back into the esophagus, causing symptoms such as heartburn, regurgitation, and discomfort. Esodac-DSR Capsule (Esomeprazole 40 mg (Ec) + Domperidone 30 mg (Sr) ) controls acid production, providing relief and preventing further esophageal damage.

Helicobacter pylori Infection: An infection of the stomach lining caused by Helicobacter pylori, which may lead to gastritis and peptic ulcers. Esodac-DSR Capsule (Esomeprazole 40 mg (Ec) + Domperidone 30 mg (Sr) )  is administered along with appropriate antibiotics to eradicate the bacteria and promote ulcer healing.

Zollinger–Ellison Syndrome: A rare disorder where tumors in the pancreas or duodenum produce excess gastrin, resulting in overproduction of stomach acid. Esodac-DSR Capsule (Esomeprazole 40 mg (Ec) + Domperidone 30 mg (Sr) )  is used to effectively control excessive acid secretion associated with this condition.

Peptic Ulcers: Open sores that develop on the inner lining of the stomach or upper part of the small intestine due to acid-related damage. Esodac-DSR Capsule (Esomeprazole 40 mg (Ec) + Domperidone 30 mg (Sr) ) promotes healing by lowering stomach acid levels and protecting the gastrointestinal lining.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

 Esomeprazole (40 mg, EC): A proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that irreversibly blocks the H⁺/K⁺ ATPase in gastric parietal cells, reducing stomach acid secretion and promoting healing of acid-related conditions.

Domperidone (30 mg, SR): A dopamine D2 receptor antagonist with prokinetic and anti-emetic effects, enhancing gastrointestinal motility, accelerating gastric emptying, and alleviating nausea and vomiting.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Drug-Drug Interactions: Inform the doctor if you are taking anti-HIV (atazanavir, nelfinavir, saquinavir, ritonavir), blood thinner (clopidogrel, warfarin), anti-fungal (ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole, fluconazole), anti-cancer (erlotinib, toremifene, vandetanib, vincamine), benzodiazepine (diazepam), anti-convulsant (phenytoin), anti-platelet (Cilostazol), antacid (cisapride, dolasetron, prucalopride), immunosuppressant (tacrolimus), anti-TB (rifampicin), antibiotics (Erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin, moxifloxacin, pentamidine), a drug used to treat hypothyroidism (levothyroxine), anti-rheumatoid (methotrexate), anti-depressant (citalopram, escitalopram), cardiac glycoside (digoxin), anti-malarial (halofantrine), anti-psychotic (haloperidol, pimozide, sertindole), anti-allergy ( mequitazin, mizolastine), anti-arrhythmic (amiodarone, dronedarone, quinidine, disopyramide, dofetilide, sotalol), anti-hypertensives (diltiazem, verapamil), St.John’s wort (herbal supplement used to treat depression).

Drug-Food Interactions: No interactions found/established.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Inform the doctor if you have Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea (CDAD), liver disease, bone fractures, prolactinoma (tumour of the pituitary gland), blockage in the intestines, bleeding in the stomach or intestine, moderate to severe liver disease, low level of potassium/magnesium, high levels of magnesium, or heart problems.

PRECAUTIONS

Precautions for Esomeprazole 40 mg (EC) + Domperidone 30 mg (SR) Capsule: This combination should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment, as both drugs are metabolized in the liver and excreted via the kidneys. Avoid use in individuals with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, domperidone, or any of the formulation's components. Domperidone may prolong the QT interval, so it should be avoided in patients with a history of cardiac arrhythmias, severe electrolyte imbalances, or underlying heart conditions.  Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use.
