DESCRIPTION

Omizep-D capsule (Omeprazole 20 mg + Domperidone 10 mg) is a combination medication used to treat acid-related gastrointestinal disorders and associated symptoms. Omeprazole reduces gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the proton pump (H⁺/K⁺-ATPase) in the stomach lining. Domperidone improves gastric motility and helps control nausea and vomiting by blocking peripheral dopamine receptors. Together, they relieve heartburn, acid reflux, bloating, and epigastric discomfort. It is commonly prescribed for GERD, gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and functional dyspepsia.

INDICATION
 

• Gastric reflux: Omizep-D Capsule (Omeprazole 20 mg + Domperidone 10 mg) is used to treat reflux  disease, a condition in which stomach acid irritates the esophagus, or food pipe.

• Disorders Related to stomach Acid: Omizep-D Capsule (Omeprazole 20 mg + Domperidone 10 mg) is used to prevent or treat conditions linked to excessive acid secretion, including duodenal ulcers, stomach ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, chronic gastritis.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

The combination of Omeprazole 20 mg + Domperidone 10 mg capsule acts by reducing gastric acid secretion and improving gastrointestinal motility. Omeprazole irreversibly inhibits the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells, thereby suppressing basal and stimulated acid secretion. Domperidone blocks peripheral dopamine (D2) receptors, enhancing acetylcholine release in the gastrointestinal tract to increase lower esophageal sphincter tone and accelerate gastric emptying. It also exerts antiemetic action by blocking dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone. Together, this combination relieves acid reflux, nausea, bloating, and epigastric discomfort.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Drug-Drug Interactions: Omizep-D Capsule (Omeprazole 20 mg + Domperidone 10 mg) may interact with anti-HIV (atazanavir), anti-fungal (ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole), anti-cancer (erlotinib, methotrexate), anti-depressant (citalopram, escitalopram, duloxetine), anti-anxiety (alprazolam), anti-convulsant (phenytoin), gastroprokinetic agent (cisapride), cardiac glycoside (digoxin), immunosuppressant (tacrolimus), and anti-tuberculosis (rifampicin).

PRECAUTIONS

Precautions should be taken when using Omizep-D Capsule (Omeprazole 20 mg + Domperidone 10 mg ) in patients with hepatic impairment, cardiac disorders, or electrolyte imbalance. Domperidone may prolong the QT interval and increase the risk of serious ventricular arrhythmias, especially in elderly patients or when combined with other QT-prolonging drugs. Omeprazole should be used cautiously in long-term therapy due to risks such as vitamin B12 deficiency, hypomagnesemia, and increased fracture risk. The combination should be used carefully during pregnancy and lactation only under medical supervision. Patients should report persistent abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, or severe diarrhea promptly.
